Tour Itinerary

Day 01 – Airport | Negombo

You will arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport, where a representative of WonderScapes Travels will give you a warm welcome. You will then be transferred to the coastal city of Negombo. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and unwind by the beautiful seaside as you prepare for an exciting Sri Lankan adventure.

Negombo is a vibrant city enriched by diverse cultural influences. It is home to many beautiful churches and is often referred to as “Little Rome.” The golden sandy beaches here are also well known for their charm and tranquility.

A delicious seafood dinner by the ocean will be served at your hotel.

Day 02 – Negombo | Sigiriya

After breakfast proceeds to Sigiriya and checks in to the hotel.

Negombo offers some of the most exciting diving locations in the country. It is known for its pristine beaches and sandy-bottomed lagoon. The town is also well known for its fresh seafood, including lobster, jumbo prawns, and crabs. If you are looking for thrilling water sports, you can try activities such as kitesurfing or jet skiing. Negombo also offers visitors a variety of entertainment options, including bars, discos, and clubs, making it a lively place to enjoy an evening out.

Return to the hotel for overnight accommodation.

Day 03 – Sigiriya | Polonnaruwa

After breakfast proceeds to climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress.

Climb the magnificent Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by King Kashyapa I (477-495 AD). Known as the “Lion Rock,” this impressive citadel rises nearly 200 metres above the surrounding scrub jungle and is considered one of Sri Lanka’s most remarkable historical landmarks.

The rock served as the innermost stronghold of a 70-hectare fortified city. A moat, ramparts, and beautifully landscaped gardens — including the renowned water gardens — surround the base of the rock. Along the ascent, admire the famous frescoes of the graceful Sigiriya “Cloud Maidens,” painted by ancient artisans in a sheltered pocket of the rock. These remarkable paintings can be viewed by climbing a spiral staircase that leads to the gallery.

Thereafter proceed to Polonnaruwa Sri Lanka’s second ancient capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once a well-planned medieval city, Polonnaruwa flourished as a major commercial and religious centre under King Parakramabahu . Today, visitors can explore its remarkably well-preserved ruins, including palaces, monasteries, and ancient irrigation systems. Visit the museum for historical insights and admire the famous Gal Vihara, renowned for its impressive granite Buddha statues carved from a single rock.

Things to Keep in Mind

Wear modest, light-colored clothing with shoulders and knees covered when visiting temples and religious sites.

No hats or footwear allowed inside temples. Bring flip-flops (easy to remove) and socks for hot ground surfaces.

Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and insect repellent. The tropical sun can be intense, especially during outdoor excursions.

Photography restrictions apply at certain religious sites. Always ask permission before taking photos of people or sacred areas.

Day 04 – Sigiriya | Trincomalee

After breakfast proceed to Trincomalee

Trincomalee is a historic port city located on the east coast of Sri Lanka and has long played an important role in maritime and international trade. Built on a peninsula that divides the inner and outer harbours, the city offers a fascinating destination for visitors.

The bay is renowned for its vast size, natural security, and easy access for vessels in all kinds of weather. Trincomalee is also famous for its pristine beaches, known for their powdery white sand and calm, clear waters—perfect for activities such as scuba diving, windsurfing, and other water sports. A must-visit attraction is Fort Frederick, a historic stronghold originally built during the colonial era.

Day 05 – Trincomalee

Visit Fort Fredrick, Koneswaram Temple, the war cemetery and enjoy a boat ride to Pigeon Island.

A short boat ride brings you to Pigeon Island, a famous bird sanctuary and marine national park in Sri Lanka. Here, nature lovers can enjoy birdwatching and explore the island’s natural beauty. A refreshing swim in the clear waters surrounding the reef is a perfect way to cool off while discovering the rich marine life that thrives among the colourful coral formations.

Day 06 – Trincomalee | Dambulla | Matale | Kandy

The Dambulla Cave Temple, yet another UNESCO World Heritage Site, is among the most visited tourist attractions on the island. The complex which consists of five caverns which showcases various paintings, sculptures and over 150 statues of Buddha among a host of other relics which dates back to the first century BC.

Proceed to Matale. In Matale, visitors can take in a spice garden which the county has long since been famous for. Walk among thriving spice cultivations and learn about the manufacturing process. A cookery demonstration too will give you the chance to discover the tantalising taste of the Sri Lankan flavours.

Day 07 – Kandy | Pinnawala | Kandy

After breakfast proceed to Pinnawala The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage offers visitors a unique opportunity to see a large number of elephants up close. Established in 1975, the sanctuary initially cared for seven orphaned elephants and has since grown to house over 70 elephants in need of protection and rehabilitation. The highlights of a visit include watching adorable baby elephants being bottle-fed and observing the daily herd bathing sessions, which take place twice a day in the nearby river. The success story of Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage has drawn the attention of scientists from around the world. A considerable number of books and research articles about the orphanage have been published in several languages.

In the evening, enjoy a guided city tour of Kandy, the cultural capital of Sri Lanka. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the hill city of Kandy showcases a vibrant culture and unique traditions steeped in rich history. Visitors can explore the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic) and seek the blessings of the Triple Gem. Stroll along the shady pathways bordering Kandy Lake, browse the local markets, and visit the arts and crafts centres. You may also explore a gem museum or lapidary to learn about Sri Lanka’s famous gemstones. Thereafter, enjoy a cultural show.

Day 08 – Kandy | Peradeniya | Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast proceed to Peradeniya visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. Spanning 147 acres, the gardens are a walker’s paradise, offering a peaceful retreat from the bustling city streets of Kandy. With manicured lawns, elegant pavilions, a fernery, and flowerbeds bursting with colourful blooms, this is a must-visit attraction for anyone exploring the city. Highlights include the orchid house and the giant Javan fig tree, both of which showcase the garden’s rich botanical diversity.

Thereafter proceed to Nuwara Eliya via a tea plantation. The little town of Nuwara Eliya is one of the most popular hill country getaways on the island. It offers fresh, invigorating mountain air, scenic vistas of misty mountains and verdant valleys to be appreciated. Sri Lanka’s highest mountain Piduruthalagala (8,282 feet) too is located here. A visit to the Victoria Golf Course, one of the finest golf links in South Asia too will prove to be an enjoyable experience

Day 09 – Nuwara Eliya | Kataragama

After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya Nestled amidst majestic mountains, the Nuwara Eliya resort town attracts many travellers with its refreshing climate and scenic beauty. Walk among picturesque plantations with flourishing tea bushes, beautifully manicured gardens, and colourful blooms.

Thereafter, proceed to Nanu Oya and board the train for a scenic journey to Haputale.

Day 10 – Kataragama | Yala

After breakfast proceeds to a Yala safari. Yala is famous for the Sri Lankan leopard, a unique subspecies found only on the island, and is believed to have one of the highest leopard densities in the world. The park is also home to several of Sri Lanka’s iconic wildlife species, including elephants, sloth bears, sambar deer, and crocodiles.

In the evening, enjoy an exciting jeep safari with a naturalist guide, where you may have the chance to spot these magnificent animals along with many other species that inhabit the park.

Day 11- Kataragama | Galle

After breakfast proceed to Galle Explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Dutch Fort, wandering along cobbled streets lined with carefully preserved colonial buildings. Browse chic concept stores, and visit the Dutch Church and Museum to learn about the fort’s rich history and heritage.

Optional dolphin and whale watching at Mirissa set off to Mirissa for an early morning expedition to encounter the gentle giants and playful acrobats of the ocean – whales and dolphins. Pods of dolphins may even follow your boat, leaping and dancing as you head toward the deeper waters, home to blue whales and sperm whales. Sri Lanka is considered one of the best places in the world to see both species, so you may be in for a truly memorable experience. Return to shore to rest and relax after your ocean adventure.

Day 12 – Galle | Colombo

After breakfast proceeds Colombo. After breakfast, drive to Colombo and enjoy views of daily life along the way. Upon arrival, take a city tour by bus, visiting key landmarks such as Independence Square, the Parliament, and the National Museum.Explore Pettah Market on foot, experiencing its vibrant atmosphere and bustling streets. The tour concludes with a meaningful shopping experience at the Barefoot Fairtrade Store, where you can purchase unique handicrafts from across the country while supporting local cottage industries.

If you happen to be in Colombo on a Saturday, you may also visit Good Market, a lively local market featuring social enterprises and responsible businesses.In the evening, there is an opportunity to enjoy a group dinner with your fellow travelers to celebrate your memorable journey through Sri Lanka

Day 13 – Airport

After breakfast, transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport for your departure flight. Ayubowan, and we wish you a pleasant journey home.

Sunscreen, flip flops, shoes and insect repellent will always come in handy

At all religious sites in Sri Lanka everyone is expected to dress respectfully in modest light coloured clothing with shoulders & knees covered

NO hats or footwear are allowed inside temples, so flip flops (which you would have to leave at the entrance) and an extra pair of socks are a good idea so you do not have to walk barefoot on the hot ground.
